San Francisco Ranks Among Top in Nation for Homebuyers Looking for a Thriving Social Scene

Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC announced today that San Francisco ranked second on its list of the best places to live for “social seekers.”  The ranking is part of the company’s newly launched five-part “Best Places to Live” series, which ranks the top United States cities in the lifestyle categories: Social Seekers, Suburbanites, Adventurers, Leisure Lovers and Culture Cravers.

The best cities for “Social Seekers” are considered perfect for the hip, trendy and fun at heart – those who would rather go out than stay home any night of the week.  The list was compiled based on a range of attributes such as access to public transportation, high volume of bars and restaurants, a “happening” nightlife and great entertainment.

The list of the national top 10 markets for Social Seekers included:

  1. Manhattan, N.Y.
  2. San Francisco, Calif.
  3. Chicago, Ill.
  4. Los Angeles, Calif.
  5. Seattle, Wash.
  6. Brookline, Mass.
  7. Arlington, Va.
  8. San Diego, Calif.
  9. Portland, Ore.
  10. Mountain View, Calif.

“It should come as no surprise that San Francisco is on the top 10 list of cities that offer flourishing cultures of fun and entertainment,” said Rick Turley, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. “Social Seekers are drawn to the nightlife and action, and San Francisco offers some of the best in the country.  That’s just one element of its appeal of course, but it’s a city that homebuyers may want to consider if they are looking for a booming social scene.”

The rankings were also held on a state level, with the Northern California cities of San Francisco ranking first, Emeryville sixth, Sausalito seventh and Marin City eighth among cities with excellent social scenes in the Golden State.

To showcase geographical diversity, for the National Top 10 Markets ranking only one city/town per core based statistical area was selected. For example, Mountain View represents the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara CBSA.

In addition to this series, Coldwell Banker also offers a Lifestyle Search feature on ColdwellBanker.com, which allows people to find homes by rating the importance of lifestyle characteristics.
