Greenbrae Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Realtors Margaret Kapranos and Susan Paul Earn HAFA Designation to Help Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

Margaret Kapranos and Susan Paul, leading sales associates with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greenbrae, have earned the prestigious Certified Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Specialist (HAFA) designation from the California Association of Realtors.  Kapranos and Paul, who work as a team and are already Certified Distressed Property Experts, completed an extensive training course in foreclosure avoidance and short sales to earn the designation.

At a time when thousands of homeowners are struggling with the possibility of foreclosure, the skills and education earned by Kapranos and Paul will help benefit Marin County residents and communities.

Short sales allow cash-strapped sellers to repay the mortgage at the price that the home sells for, even though it may be lower than what is owed on the property.  This can save many people from foreclosure and even bankruptcy.  More and more lenders are willing to consider short sales because they are much less costly than foreclosures.

“The HAFA designation has been invaluable as we work with homeowners and lenders on complicated short sales,” said Kapranos. “It is so rewarding for Susan and I to be able to help families save their homes from foreclosure.”

The California Association of Realtors provides live and online courses to train real estate professionals how to help homeowners in distress, with a particular emphasis on handling short sales.
