Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Honors Two Orinda Students with College Scholarships

Spencer Neale Memorial Scholarships for Excellence in Art awarded to 2010 Campolindo High School Graduates

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage proudly announced today that its Orinda office has awarded the Spencer Neale Memorial Scholarships for Excellence in Art to two Campolindo High School graduates.  Tina Curiel and Bridgette Thornton, who both graduated earlier this summer, each received $1,000 for their college educations.

The scholarship is a tribute to Spencer Neale, a 2009 graduate of Campolindo, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident this past April.  Spencer is the daughter of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Orinda sales associate Audrey Neale.  Audrey’s fellow agents and administrative staff created the Scholarship in Spencer’s honor and collected and contributed the scholarship money.

“Audrey suffered an unthinkable and devastating loss, and we wanted to find a way to express our support and create a lasting tribute while honoring the memory of Spencer,” said Valerie Cook-Watkins, manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Orinda.  “The generosity we saw from members of our office was astonishing and we were thrilled to have collected the funds to provide not one, but two scholarships to Spencer’s classmates.”

Both Curiel and Thornton are pursuing a degree in art, a subject that Spencer was passionate about.  To earn the scholarships, they each wrote an essay about how art has affected their lives and how they hope to share it with the world.  Thornton wrote that she’s interested in creating art with fresh meaning and Curiel says that she plans to use her art to share messages about war, the environment and endangered species.

“Bridgette and Tina are extremely creative and talented young women and are very deserving of these scholarships,” Cook-Watkins continued.  “Their essays were impressive and their art work was absolutely amazing. We wish them the best as they pursue their education and we know they will craft profound and meaningful artwork through their college years and beyond.  Our wish is that they will continue to design beautiful art work and fulfill the dreams that Spencer was unable to.”
